Want to Watch UK TV in Brittany? BBC May be Coming to France Soon!
The BBC have announced that the popular iPlayer is going to be launched Worldwide, starting in western Europe, including Brittany, this summer.
At the moment, it is not possible to use the iPlayer, unless you use some Internet tricks to hide your location. This is due to the BBC licence laws, that require a viewer to pay to access the BBC content.
The service is not going to be free understandably and it is expected that a fee of around £6 will be charged.
Initially, the service will only be available on the Apple iPad as the BBC trials its worldwide release. Other platforms and open broadcast on the Internet will become available later.
It is unlikely that the full iPlayer experience will be available, but instead selected programmes aimed at the International market. As part of this worldwide expansion, the BBC hopes to break into the lucrative North American market, but as the plan is to move slowly with the roll-out, this could be sometime in arriving.
For those that want the full iPlayer functions, it would appear that tricking the player into thinking you are in the UK may remain the only way for the moment.
Do you watch British TV? Maybe you already watch the iPlayer using a VPN or server based in the UK? Will you use the new service if costs €10 per month? We would love to hear your views.
