Fete de la Musique in Brittany
The Fete de la Musique is an National event that started in France on June 21, 1982, the day of summer solstice, a pagan night which recalls the ancient tradition of Saint John’s feasts.
It was the inspiration of Maurice Fleuret, who having noticed that around one in two children in France played a musical instrument, he dreamt of a way of showing this talent off to the public of France.
In 1985, the European Day of Music, the event was taken up by over one hundred countries across the world in five different continents. All the concerts are given for free, by both professional and amateur musicians, covering all styles of music.
In Brittany there are about lots of separate concerts on the day, ranging from solo artists, small groups to choral groups, something for everyone.
