Introduction
Baud is a lovely old market town where local farmers have traditionally traded their goods and services. Baud is now an excellent base for exploring Brittany.
Geography
Baud is a canton in the department of Morbihan and covers an area of 48.09 km ². The town is one of the 10 cantons of Pontivy and is located 24 km south west of Pontivy.
Baud overlooks the pretty Evel Valley and has the River Evel flowing through the centre of town before joining the River Blavert which borders Baud.
Shopping
There is a market at 'La Place De L'eglise' every Saturday morning. Baud also has two bakeries, three butchers, two tabacs, one wine seller, two bookstores, three hardware stores, a fishmongers and several clothes and shoe shops. For all other groceries there are three supermarkets in the town.
More shops and larger chains can be found at Pontivy which is only 24 km away or Lorient at 35 km.

Baud has three 'Ecoles Primaires et Maternelles' and two 'Colleges'.
Baud also has one post office, several hair salons, one veterinary practice, numerous garages, four banks, three dentist practices, lots of doctors, two opticians, three pharmacies and a library. The town has a centrally located Gendarmerie and Pompier.
The nearest hospital is 20 km away in Hennebont.
For entertainment Baud has restaurants, cafe bistros and creperies. There is also a bar and a nightclub. Baud has one cinema and an unusual domed swimming pool complex.
Tourism
Baud has two hotels, two campsites, a Chambre d’Hotes and a gite complexe.
The town is home to the unique 'Conservatoire Regional de la Carte Postale' which is a Postcard Museum that houses over 20,000 ancient postcards depicting life in Brittany.
There are many Fetes and events that take place in and around Baud during the summer months including a Beer Festival and a Festival of traditional crafts.
Worth a visit:
- Stroll around the sculptured fountain ‘De La Clarte’ which is still in use today supplying an old wash house. Town tradition says that the fountain waters have the power to cure certain illnesses of the eyes.
- Visit the town church which is famous for its double organ. Musical concerts are frequently held here.
Sporting & Other Activities
There is a good public leisure centre in Baud with a large sports hall, tennis courts, football fields and a basketball court. The town also has facilities for martial arts, table tennis, skating, badminton, shooting, quad biking and cycling,
Other popular associations include computing, Breton culture, astronomy, history, cards, drama and crafts.
