Introduction
Bain de Bretagne was originally known as Bain and was the capital of the region between 1790 and 1795. The town was renamed Bain de Bretagne in 1895.
The town Mairie has recently announced approval of plans to build a new theatre, school and houses within Bain de Bretagne.
Geography
Bain de Bretagne is a canton in the department of Ille et Vilaine and covers an area of 64.77 km². The town is one of the 7 cantons of Redon and is located 40 km north west of the Redon arrondissement and 30 km south of Rennes.
There is a 86 acre lake on the edge of Bain de Bretagne and the River Semnon forms part of the towns north border.
Shopping
There is a market in the Place de Republic of Bain de Bretagne every Monday morning and Friday evening. Bain de Bretagne also has three bakeries, three butchers, two wine sellers, two bookstores, two hardware stores and several clothes and shoe shops. For all other groceries there are three supermarkets in the town.
More shops and larger chains can be found at Rennes which is 30 km away.

Bain de Bretagne has four 'Ecoles Primaires et Maternelles', two 'Colleges' and one Lycee.
Bain de Bretagne has one post office, several hair salons, one veterinary practice, numerous garages, six banks, three dentist practices, lots of doctors, four optician, one ophthalmologist, three pharmacies and a library. The town also has several hospital clinics as well as a centrally located Gendarmerie and Pompier.
For entertainment Bain de Bretagne has restaurants, cafe bistros and two creperies. There is also a cinema and a swimming pool complex.
Tourism
Bain de Bretagne has one hotel and a campsite within the town. There are also several Chambre d’Hotes and gite complexes in the region.
Bain de Bretagne does not have any specific 'tourist attractions' but there are still several historical buildings which are well worth investigation;
- Le Chateau de la Robinais - an 18th century castle
- Le Moulin de Pommeniac - an old mill
The area also has over 40 km of well planned walking trails.
Bain de Bretagne is home to the 'Festival du Schmoul' every April and celebrates contemporary music. In August the town hosts the 'Festival West Country' which is a 'western' extravaganza of cowboys and rodeos!
Sporting & Other Activities
Due to the lake next to the town Bain de Bretagne has good access to watersports such as sailing, canoeing and swimming as well as fishing.
Bain de Bretagne also has an excellent leisure centre with football, athletics, basketball, tennis and badminton facilities. There are also numerous active associations such as art, music, dance, drama and craft.
In the surrounding area there are good golf, horse riding and cycling centres.
